Russell Municipal Swimming Pool Opens May 24th
The City of Russell Duke Johnson Municipal Swimming Pool and Historic Park Splash Pad will open for the Summer 2025 Season on Saturday, May 24th.
The Duke Johnson Memorial Swimming Pool, located at 1002 East 4th Street, will be open 7 days a week, from 1 pm to 7 pm. The concession stand will be available, offering a wide variety of snacks and beverages.
Admission/Pool Passes
The single person daily admission is $2.00, and children under five years of age are free with paid adult admission. A single-person season pass is $50, and a family season pass is $100. Season passes must be purchased at the City Building during regular business hours, from 8 am to 5 pm. As a reminder, swimming pool patrons under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a paying customer age 14 or older.
Pool Parties
Pool parties are available to the public. Application and payment can be made through the City Clerk's office. Pool parties may be scheduled from 7 pm to 9 pm every evening of the week, with the exception of Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The City Clerk's Office will need a 5 day notice to be able to schedule a pool party.
General Regulations
The following is a list of our visitors' policy. They are general in nature and SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS A FINAL LIST.
Safety and Supervision
- CHILDREN AGE 7 AND UNDER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT OR CAREGIVER AT LEAST 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. No exceptions.
- RUNNING, ROUGH PLAY, AND PERSONAL CONTACT ENDANGERING THE SAFETY OF SELF AND OTHERS in any portion of the establishment shall be prohibited. Tag is only allowed in the water.
- In the event of thunder and/or lightning the pool and decks must be cleared immediately. Memorial Park is equipped with a lightning detector that will sound when it is unsafe to be in the water. The staff will clear the pool and keep it clear until the light on the detector states that it is safe to return to the pool. No refunds will be made due to inclement weather.
- Diving Rules:
- No diving from the lifeguard stands.
- No diving in areas less than 4 foot.
- Only one person at a time, on the diving board at a time.
- NO FLIPS. Flips are strictly prohibited for all age groups at all times, including during general hours and pool parties.
- Divers must swim to nearest ladder.
- One bounce on the board.
- Children NOT able to swim may be allowed to jump into the deep end and caught by a parent or guardian with permission from the lifeguard. But ONLY by a parent or guardian, and when the pool is not crowded.
- Wait until the person is at or past the exit ladder before diving.
- Slides:
- Only one person at a time can go down the slides.
- Children under the required height limit will be required to put on a wristband at the front desk, signifying that they are under the height limit.
- You may only go down the slides when the lifeguard tells you to.
- Swim to the ladder of the pool by the slide. Do not cross in front of the other slide to exit the pool.
- Lost Items under the Slide:
- Patrons must ask a lifeguard to retrieve any item lost beneath the slides. Items will only be retrieved: During the next scheduled break, or by a lifeguard in the office when it is safe to do so.
- Under no circumstances are patrons allowed to enter the restricted area beneath the slide structure. This area is off-limits for safety reasons.
- A caregiver must watch small children in the shallow area around the water toys.
- Anyone that appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave the premises. If they drove to the facility, an attempt will be made for them to find a ride home. If they refuse, law enforcement will be contacted.
Conduct & Behavior
- No sexual harassment will be tolerated.
- Discipline Policy:
- 1st Violation: Warning
- 2nd Violation: 15 minutes detained out of the pool
- 3rd Violation: Dismissal from the pool for one day.
- 4th Violation: If a swimmer reaches the 3rd violation on three separate occasions, they will also be expelled for the rest of the season.
- Abusive language and obscene gestures will not be tolerated.
- No playing chicken, intentional splashing, or chain-bombing.
- No loitering or horseplay in the bath house.
- No smoking throughout the entire facility. Smokers are asked to go across the street to the shelter by the tennis courts or to their vehicles.
Hygiene & Health
- Admission to the pool will be refused to all persons having skin diseases, sore or inflamed eyes, cold, nasal, or ear discharge, or and communicable disease.
- Standard diapers are not allowed in the pool. Only Swim Wear Diapers are allowed.
- All swimmers must wear proper swimming attire.
Facility Use & Operations
- ALL persons entering the pool will pay full admission price, no matter how they are dressed, unless a season pass has been obtained. All persons must sign in when entering the pool.
- No shoes in the pool with the exception of aqua socks.
- No FOOD OR BEVERAGES in the pool.
- No glass items, including suntain oil, will be allowed on the premises.
- Foreign objects including rocks, towels, etc. are not permitted in the pool. Toys are allowed. (Exception is T-shirts worn to prevent sunburn)
- Intentional destruction of pool property, including writing on walls, defacing tables and chairs, etc. will result in suspension from the pool.
- The City and pool employees are not responsible for lost or broken items.
Administrative/General
- Pool closing will be determined at the discretion of the pool management.
- Daily Admission Fees will be refunded if the patrons have been in attendance for less than 1 hour. Refunds should be documented on the sign in sheets.
- At 6:45, an announcement will be made telling pool patrons that the pool will be closing in 15 minutes.
